I'm passionate about designing delightful user experiences that people connect with.
This is the story of how I got into UX design.
The fall of 2014
My career first began in art education. I believe that art can break down barriers to communication in a way that words can not and education is the great equalizer.
From 2014-2021
For the first two years of teaching, I taught high school art through Teach for America. Then, I went on to teach at an alternative program and at a middle school. I learned a lot about perseverance, thinking on the fly, and communication.
Somewhere between those years
During my years as an educator, I tried to connect what was happening in my classroom to the world outside. My students got to create lots of art in the context of what was happening around them.
March 2020
Then the pandemic hit. Everything moved online. This would be my first real experience using digital products daily. Because the shift to virtual learning was so abrupt, many online tools did not meet my students' needs, especially in art.
Sometime in the fall of 2020
I googled something along the lines of "I want this tool to do this. Who do I talk to in order to make that happen?" That's essentially how I discovered UX design.
The end of the school year 2021
Someone or some team designed every digital tool and virtual learning experience my students had. This realization prompted me to make a career change.
July 2022
I officially quit teaching and started learning UX design full time. I spent the next year studying in a bootcamp and taking design classes. I made a few good friends along the way. :)
March 2023
I officially finished my UX design education! But learning never really ends.
Today
Strengthened by my background as an educator and my passion for helping others, good design fosters belonging in every community and experience.
I'm striving to design products that do just that.
